Cavity Wall Insulation - Installation Process and Facts

By Daniel Shropshire

Hello, my name is Daniel Shropshire and I am the founder of EnergyWise. Heat rises and in older houses in particular, much of it goes straight up the chimney or right up to the roof and into the sky. So once you've lagged the roof and before you start thinking about expensive double glazing, insulate the walls.
Most modern houses have two walls, an outer wall and an inner one and there's a gap between them to stop the wind and rain. If there's nothing between the inner and outer wall, then heat will simply radiate through. So to stop that happening you need insulation. There are several types: white or yellow wool, which is spun from glass. Green wool, which is actually made from rocks, or there's expanded polystyrene beads. Your installer will help you decide which one is best for your house.

For every hundred pounds you spend on your heating bills, more than a third of it wont keep you warm. It will disappear through the walls because there is nothing to stop it. Filled with insulation, the gap will act as a weather shield and make your home much warmer. Insulation material flows easily to fill the gap totally, even flowing around sharp corners.

There cant be many better, or more certain investment that you can make. In the two or three years after cavity wall insulation has been installed, it will pay for itself, or put another way, after two or three years one third of all the money that you would have spent on heating will stay in your pocket.

Well over ninety percent of all homes constructed since nineteen thirty weren't built with even the minimum amount of insulation needed by todays standards.

Once a pattern of strategically placed holes are drilled into the outer wall, your installers will blow the insulation into the cavity through hoses.
Once the work is complete, you would not even know that your installers had been there, even down to the mortar filled holes which have been colour matched to suit the existing mortar.

EnergyWise has more approved installers around the United Kingdom than any other home insulation provider. All EnergyWise installers are trained to the highest standards to guarantee a service that is second to none.

As fuel prices rise, the higher energy efficiency rating gained by having insulated cavity walls is bound to add to the value of your property.
